Titanium Dioxide

Titanium Dioxide Reactors

Equipment for treatment of all kinds of water.

Titanium dioxide for producing hydroxyl radicals without chemicals.
Only TiO2+UV+H2O.
Clean technology – without by-products- whose goal is to remove organic matter from the water by oxidation for more reusable, pollutant-free and safe water.
OH radicals are non-selective. This means that any organic pollutant in the water can be attacked including Micro-organisms.

It is not a biocide. It is not UV radiation.

linea industrial

Industrial Reactors.

Units for water treatment up to 1.000 m3/hr each.

linea home

Building Reactors.

Units for hospitals, hotels, spas, gyms, homes, etc.

linea acuarium

Aquarium Reactors.

Equipment that replicates conditions of natural aquatic habitats.

Industrial Reactors

Units for the best water quality. To remove all pollutants (organic) in the water. No damage to installation materials. No side effects. Equipment allows repeated water re-use maintaining it in perfect condition.

Building Reactors

Equipment to treat incoming water, storage and/or use in buildings. These units are the ultimate protective barrier for users. They guarantee safe and healthy water. This is not always the case when water is taken directly from municipal networks or private sources.

Aquarium Reactors

Equipment that treats water that is the habitat of fauna and flora without having the slightest effect on them.
Units that reduce, countless times, the delicate maintenance operations in living aquatic installations; they keep the water transparent and free of contamination of any kind (organic).

Reactor Properties

  • A single block of titanium dioxide – not just a coating. No possibility of titanium dioxide release.
  • Unlimited life – The reactor acts as a heterogeneous catalyst; it is unalterable.
  • Sustainability – No need to use chemicals. Does not produce by-products.
  • Simplicity of design, installation, use and control.
  • Reliability of the result.
  • Minimal OPEX costs.
  • Low energy consumption – 15-20 W/m3 treated water.
  • WRAS certificated.
What are the compounds that the reactors mineralise (remove)?
Only organic pollutants. OH radicals are only capable of breaking C-C bonds.
They do not remove lime or inorganic salts.

Do they reduce the water conductivity?
No.

Do they change water pH?
No. OH radicals are not OH ions.

Do they reduce BOD in a single pass?
No. BOD reduction requires recirculation of the water for a variable time depending on the concentration and chemical characteristics of the pollutants and it is only possible if the nature of the pollutants is organic.

Can they damage the installation (materials)?
No. To avoid any possibility of galvanic corrosion it is recommended to place insulating material (rubber) on the hydraulic connections of the equipment.

If an installation is no longer in operation, can I reuse the reactor in another one?
Yes, although it is advisable to study whether the reactor model is adequate for the new one.

Is it necessary to install a filtering system before using the reactor?
As a general rule, no, beyond fining and/or unless the water contains particulate matter that could scratch the quartz tubes protecting the UV lamps.

When placing the reactor, are there any considerations to take into account?
A minimum clearance of 1.5 m must be respected to remove and replace the UV lamps without problems.

What is the maximum water temperature allowed by the reactors?
It should not exceed 55ºC. Depending on the case, efficiency may be reduced from 50ºC onwards. However, there is a reactor working even at 62ºC with total efficiency.

And the minimum temperature?
1ºC (water freezing inside the reactors must be avoided).

Can they be installed outdoors?
Depending on the model, the electrical panels have IP54 or IP55.
If they are exposed to weather conditions (direct sun and/or rain), it is recommended to protect both the panels and the reactor itself.

What is the limit distance between the reactor and its control box?
25 m.

Do reactors replace biocides?
No. But this also depends on the legislation of each country.

What happens if reactors are used with water containing a biocide such as chlorine?
A synergistic effect is produced by enhancing the disinfectant action of chlorine.

What happens if reactors are used with water containing other biocides?
Normally, there is a synergistic effect. For example, if hydrogen peroxide is passed through the reactors, even more OH radicals are produced. But there are exceptions, such as if you add a compound containing iron, which acts as OH radical scavengers and the efficiency of our equipment will be reduced.

Can I pursue a residual effect?
No. OH radicals are generated only inside the reactor and their lifetime is measured in nanoseconds.

What is the UV lamps dosage?
400 J/m2 minimum; which is the minimum dose to generate OH radicals.

Can the UV lamps dosage increase or decrease?
No. The reactors are designed for constant dosage throughout their lifetime. It is not a traditional UV system. It is not the UV light that acts but the OH radicals, which act in a very different way.

What is the UV wavelength?
Reactors work with UV radiation around a peak of 253.7 nm.

Do the devices use different types of UV lamps?
We use two types of UV lamps; 80W and 105W.

What is the UV lamps lifetime?
14.000 -16.000 h.

Can the reactors be switched on and off so that they only work certain hours a day?
Yes, but consider UV lamps lifetime is reduced by about 24 hours each time they are switched on/off.

Can the reactors run continuously?
Yes. It is our recommendation.

What happens if one or more UV lamps fail?
In order not to compromise the results too much, at least 90% of the lamps must be always operational.

Does the control panel need a cooling system?
In environments with high humidity and/or temperature (40ºC), it is recommended and can be supplied as an option.

Can the reactor be connected to a SCADA?
Yes, it has RS-485 MOD BUS RTU.

Are they manufactured with other power levels and frequencies?
As standard, the reactors are manufactured in single-phase 230 V | 50 Hz.
On request, they can be made to measure (voltage/frequency).

What are the standard maintenance requirements?
Less than 30 minutes a month plus an additional 4 hours a year.
Please attend our training programme.

When is it necessary to clean the reactor?
It depends on the water quality. It is indicated by the transmittance sensor. At least once a year, with the annual maintenance..
With very hard waters it may be necessary every fortnight. No need to stop the water installation to do it.

What is the best product to clean the reactor?
It will depend on the nature of the dirt, but we recommend using a weak acid (acetic, for example) and never going below pH 4.

Any precautions in the cleaning operation?
Never get below pH 4.

Is it necessary to uninstall the reactor for cleaning?
No. Just fill the reactor with dilute weak acid, hold for 4 hours, drain and switch on again.

Does the reactor have an automatic cleaning system?
Available as an option.

Are different spare parts required for different reactor models?
No. Models of the same series use the same spare parts and some of the parts are interchangeable between reactors of different series.

How does it work?

h2o.TITANIUM is non-selective. It is capable of breaking down any type of organic molecule regardless of its origin.
